Most people love the idea of drawing, but if you aren’t an artist, taking up the pencil can feel pointless. What is it about professionals that makes even their stick figures look polished?
It might seem discouraging, but what if drawing was less an exercise in frustration and more like a game? Or even an adventure?
That’s exactly what Draw Like a Boss, a 297-page tome full of “Drawcraft” aims to do. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an intermediate artist, the book gamifies drawing and has you tackling different exercises to improve your skills.
The book is nothing short of beautiful, and would be worth collecting just for the whimsical design. Yet inside, you’ll find a tech tree that touches on abilities you’ll learn, like measuring distance and using shadows to add depth.
These skills mirror the book’s overarching story, taking you from the blank “Void” of the page to the Woods, Contour Coast and beyond.
With clearly outlined difficulty levels, tons of demonstrations and methods to improve your work, you’ll be sketching portraits and imaginary creatures with ease.
This is not the creators’ (Ash and Eli’s) first Kickstarter project. DLaB was originally funded in 2013, spawning the first run of books and videos further exploring the lessons.
With this second print run funding now, who’s to say how long it will be before you can get one of these tomes again?
The project ends on May 3rd and a single copy of the book runs about $60 with shipping to the U.S. Go gain some artistic XP!
