These are dreams you may have had when your legs were stubby and your mouth was gap-toothed. Of fairy gatherings with tea and cutlasses at dusk. The critters who accompanied you were playful, but beneath their sparkly eyes were old souls—just like LullabyforFox’s dreamy, fuzzy creations.
Seriously, how can you resist a face like that? I’m convinced Sonia Nermarmeladova is secretly an alien powered by mystic potions and stardust, because the little beings she creates are simply dripping with a cosmic whimsy unlike anything else I’ve seen.
Sonia does credit “space” as one of her inspirations, along with ethnic motifs, nature, fantasy and of course, animals. The most detailed parts of her figures are sculpted with polymer clay while the rest is crafted using faux fur and mineral granules for stuffing.
The photo above is part of her “the yoga for the fuzzies” line of toys. According to Sonia, the animals hold various magical items like stones or pearls while meditating as the “lotuses is blooming in their faces.”
I’m not at all making fun of her phrasing! I think the descriptions are adorable and bring a smile to my face just like her creations. With all the painting that goes into these pieces, I actually wish she’d describe her process further.
To me one of the most striking things of these critters are their soothing color palettes. I think it’s sometimes easy to take good color for granted, but you can tell how each choice Sonia makes builds depth in her figure’s features and complements its look as a whole.
The prices on these LullabyForFox pieces are wild considering each is handmade and painted to order. If you want to add some whimsy and wonder to your hearth, these soulful creatures are sure to bring you warmth with their soft, home-crafted appeal and companionship.
